CHC Appeals & Reviews
Funding refused or withdrawn? Many CHC decisions are wrong. We manage the full appeal process - from the first ICB challenge through to the Independent Review Panel.
What does CHC Appeals & Reviews include?
When CHC funding is refused or withdrawn, families have a formal right of appeal. The process has three stages: first, ICB Local Resolution - an internal review by the Integrated Care Board; second, NHS England Review if local resolution is unsuccessful; and third, the Independent Review Panel - an independent body that examines the clinical and procedural basis of the original decision. At each stage, the quality of the clinical evidence and the strength of the appeal submission are decisive.
The most successful appeals are those where specific clinical errors in the original assessment are identified and challenged. This requires someone who understands not just the process, but the clinical criteria themselves - which is precisely what SG67 brings.
Who is this for?
This service is for you if:
A CHC application has been refused and you believe the decision was incorrect
CHC funding has been withdrawn at a review and you disagree with the outcome
A DST assessment produced a result that does not accurately reflect the person's needs
You want an experienced nurse advocate to manage the appeal on your behalf
You are unsure whether your case has grounds for appeal and want an honest assessment
What We Do
When SG67 takes on a case, we manage the process from start to finish:
Review the original assessment and decision documentation to identify grounds for appeal
Give an honest assessment of appeal prospects before any commitment is made
Prepare the formal appeal submission - including clinical evidence and domain-by-domain challenge
Manage ICB local resolution correspondence and meetings
Escalate to NHS England review if local resolution is unsuccessful
Prepare and present the case at the Independent Review Panel where required
Keep you informed at every stage
A successful appeal results in CHC funding being awarded or reinstated - and in many cases, means the NHS also reimburses care costs paid during the period under appeal.
